Running your first payroll

From a locked cutoff through a finalized run to payslips — a complete walkthrough in Payora.

In Payora, a payroll run turns a cutoff period's attendance and compensation into payslips and a bank disbursement. Running payroll is an HR task. This guide walks through one from start to finish.

Before you start

  • Employees added, each with a compensation profile.
  • A pay schedule set (Payroll → Policy → Pay Schedule).
  • The period's attendance captured and the cutoff period Locked — only locked periods can be run.

Start a run

  1. Open Payroll (the Runs tab) and choose Start Payroll Run.
  2. Select the locked cutoff period you're paying, then Next: Review.
  3. Review the pre-run validation — employees to process, attendance counts, and any missing attendance or compensation.
  4. Check the per-employee preview, then Confirm & Run Payroll.

Finalize the run

On plans with the approval workflow, HR submits the draft for approval (Review & Submit for Approval) and a Manager approves or rejects it; otherwise HR finalizes directly. Either way the last step is Finalize Run, which locks the run — this is irreversible, and a finalized run can no longer be edited or regenerated.

Payslips

Once a run is finalized, each employee sees their payslip under My Payslips. There is no separate "release" or "publish" step — finalizing the run is what makes payslips available.

Reports and disbursement

From a finalized run you can Download All Payslips (PDF or CSV) and Export Disbursement, and open the payroll reports.
